The Court Case of Zunar vs Police Government of Malaysia which was scheduled for Wednesday (June 6) was postponed again upon the request of the Attorney General to a future date.

Court case on 23 May 2012 has been delayed.

Keputusan kes Zunar saman polis/kerajaan Malaysia kerana tangkapan tak sah yang sepatutnya dijadualkan esok 9 pagi 23 Mei 2012, ditangguhkan ke 6 Jun 2012.

A Note From Zunar: Decision On Civil Case This Week

The Malaysian cartoonist Zunar issued a press notice yesterday to remind that a decision will be rendered in two days on his civil suit against police political authorities in his country regarding his unlawful detention a couple of years ago due to the content of his bookCartoon-O-Phobia. The cartoonist was held for two days, was investigated under the Sedition Act, and if my memory serves was picked up right before some crucial publicity-style events designed to drive sales of that volume. One of the key concerns in the suit is that Zunar was arrested before the books were publicly available, which combined with the fact that no one has come close to rioting or anything like that due to Zunar's cartoons, puts some stress on officials' claims that there was some sort of imminent danger that called for the cartoonist's detention.

Due to Malaysian law, the court could also decide that Zunar has to pay the government about 8000 Euros for bringing the case in the first place. This also to my mind doesn't really get at a key of the Zunar matter, which is the chilling effect the government's actions have had on the artist's ability to print and distribute his comics in his home country just generally, due to potential partners and commercial allies being frightened away. Even so, there are preferred outcomes here, obviously. So all eyes on Kuala Lumpur.

Zunar ketuai program 'Kartunis Bantah-Lynas'

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 Mac: Kartunis Zunar  (gambar) akan mengetuai sekumpulan pelukis kartun untuk mengadakan program kesedaran bahaya sisa nadir bumi (rare earth) kepada penduduk tempatan di Kuantan pada 31 Mac ini.

Antara program yang akan diadakan ialah peraduan melukis dan mewarna untuk kanak-kanak, acara melukis karikatur, melukis banner secara terbuka dan demonstrasi melukis kartun, kata Zunar yang nama sebenarnya Zulkifli Anuar Ulhaque.

Antara kartunis yang akan turut mengambil bahagian dalam program tersebut ialah Johhny Ong, Nor Azlin Ngah (Jonos), Azman Md Noh, Azmie Taha dan Abdullah Jones.

Syarikat dari Australia, Lynas telah membina kilang yang merbahaya kepada alam sekitar dan manusia itu di kawasan perindustrian Gebeng, 25 km dari Kuantan

"Program amal ini adalah sebagai melaksanakan tanggungjawab kami sebagai kartunis kepada masyarakat. 

"Kami berharap kaedah penerangan menerusi program santai begini akan memberi lebih kesedaran kepada masyarakat setempat tentang bahaya sisa nadir kepada kepada mereka dan generasi akan datang," katanya.

Sebanyak dua program berasingan akan diadakan iaitu di Balok pada sebelah petang dan malam di Pantai Teluk Chempedak. 

Di Balok, program bermula jam 3 hingga 5 petang bertempat di Dewan Sekolah Rendah Islam Al-Irsyad manakala program di Teluk Cempedak bermula jam 8 malam. 

Program anjuran bersama Save Malaysia Stop Lynas (SMSL) dan BADAR ini adalah terbuka dan percuma untuk orang ramai.

Peraduan mewarna dikhususkan kepada kanak-kanak dan remaja di mana hadiah-hadiah menarik disediakan dan pendaftaran boleh dibuat di tempat pertandingan pada hari tersebut. 

Manakala orang dewasa boleh mengambil bahagian dalam acara melukis kain rentang serta karikatur.

"Kartunis Anti Lynas" Kid's Drawing Competition with Zunar and cartoonist on 31 March 2012.

Zunar and cartoonist Jonos, Johnny Ong, Azmie Taha, Abdullah Jones, Azman Md Noh and etc will held a programme "Kartunis Anti Lynas" at Kuanta on this coming saturday 31 March 2012.

This programme is a drawing and coloring competition for kids, as a way of demonstration through drawing cartoon, caricature is free of charge to people that day.

Zunar live drawing performance at Medan Istana, Ipoh on 16 of March ( Friday).

Zunar akan berada di Medan Istana, IPOH pada hari Jumaat, 16 Mac jam 8 malam untuk jualan buku, T-Shirt dan menandatangi otograf juga mengadakan persembahan melukis atas pentas. Ini adalah persembahan pentas pertama beliau sejak Julai tahun lepas. Turut berucap di atas pentas ialah Anwar Ibrahim, YB Nizar, Ustaz Hadi, Guan Eng dan Hishamuddin Rais. Semua dijemput datang.


Zunar will be at Medan Istana, IPOH this coming friday which is 16 of March from 8pm onwards for books and t-shirts selling with autograph as well as to perform live drawing on the stage. This is the first ever performance of Zunar on stage since July last year. Zunar's unlawful detention suit against police delayed.

The civil suit filed by a political cartoonist Zunar against police and the government over his “unlawful detention” has been postponed to the 5th and 6th of April.
